About Of Proscalpin 1 Mg

Proscalpin 1 mg contains finasteride, a medication commonly used to treat androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness) in men. Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, which means it works by reducing the levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss in men.

Uses

  • Male Pattern Baldness: Proscalpin is primarily used to treat hair loss at the crown and in the middle of the scalp. It helps in slowing down hair loss and, in some cases, may promote hair regrowth.
  • Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): Although Proscalpin 1 mg is typically used for hair loss, finasteride at a higher dose (5 mg) is used to treat symptoms of BPH, a condition where the prostate gland is enlarged.

How It Works

It works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a hormone that shrinks hair follicles, leading to thinning hair and baldness. By lowering DHT levels, finasteride helps to prevent further hair loss and may encourage new hair growth.

Precautions

  • Pregnancy and Women: Finasteride is not approved for use in women, and pregnant women should avoid handling crushed or broken tablets as it can be absorbed through the skin and potentially cause birth defects in a male fetus.
  • Liver Function: If you have liver disease, discuss it with your doctor, as finasteride is metabolized by the liver.
  • Prostate Cancer Screening: Finasteride can affect prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, which are used to screen for prostate cancer. Inform your doctor if you are undergoing PSA testing.
